Tubes for Beginners
Tips for Tubing with Toddlers:
Being towed behind a speed boat can be scary for toddlers and young children, but with these tips you can make their first boat tube ride a successful introduction to water sports. We offer reassuring cockpit-style towable tubes with sit-in security for young ones so it’s fun and easy to go slow and feel safe. The seats are also comfortable for an older buddy or parent to sit next to them for extra security and coaching opportunities.
START SLOW: For children weighing less than 50 pounds, the suggested boat speed is only 10 mph. Make sure to drive in a gently curving pattern (i.e., do not try to go over the boat wake). Speed will cause anxiety, so it’s best to start slow and gradually increase speed as the young tuber’s comfort increases.
TEACH HAND SIGNALS: Teach beginners the basic hand signals: thumbs up for faster, thumbs down for slower, slashing across neck area for stopping. This will not only improve communication, but also give the child more feeling of control and confidence.
ALWAYS WEAR A PFD: As with all water sports, participants should always wear a personal flotation device (PFD). (By the way, if you need one or two of those, click here. This is especially important for young children, even if they are strong swimmers, in the event they get tipped out of the tube in deep water.
